During Your Seward Alaska Fishing & Sightseeing Charter

Once at the boat(s) the captain or deckhand will greet you and help you store your gear inside
the cabin, we will give you a safety speech about the boat(s), brief you about the forecasted weather
for the day and tell you the game plan for the day’s fishing adventure! At this time, any health/ safety
issues should be addressed to the crew. We will then leave the boat slip to begin your day of
fishing & sightseeing. Our average running time to the Seward halibut fishing grounds is anywhere
from 1 to 2.5 hours. Average running time to the Seward salmon fishing grounds is 20 minutes
    to 1.5 hours.
Our fishing grounds could include Resurrection Bay, Kenai Fjords National Park,
Gulf of Alaska,Montague Island or Prince William Sound. As we venture out to the fishing grounds,
you will see some of the most spectacular scenery, which could include glaciers, snow-capped
mountains, historic landmarks and marine wildlife. Be on the lookout for whales, sea otters, bald
eagles, sea lions, puffins, mountain goats and porpoises. When we get to the Seward fishing
grounds, the crew will give instructions and a demonstration on how to use the Alaska fishing tackle
and what fishing technique to use for the type of fishing we will be doing. Sportfishing is a
hands-on sport, you will be encouraged to hook and land your own fish. The boat crew will bait your
hook, net your fish or gaff your fish and mark your fish with a colored plastic tie. At any time you need
help or have a question, the crew will be there from the first hook-set and all the way till the fish is in
the boat! Once you have caught your limit, we’ll ask that you be a spectator until everyone has
caught his or her limit. Alaska State Law prohibits “party fishing” where a person fishes for someone
else. Although if there are other species of fish at our fishing spot, you can fish for those!

At the end of the day
Once the fishing day is over, we will leave the fishing grounds in time to return to the boat harbor
between 4pm and 6pm for full day charters. For half-day charters we are back by 12 noon for the
morning trip and 6pm for the afternoon trip. At the boat slip the crew will have you gather up your
belongings and give you directions to the fish cleaning station. Then the crew will cart your fish up
to the fish hanging rack for photographs! They will fillet your catch and put the fillets in bags for your
cooler or will help you make arrangements for fish processing. J-Dock Fish Co. located at J-dock offers
fish processing services such as vacuum packing, freezing, storage boxes and shipping services
    via FedEx or UPS!
