Seward
halibut fishing is a pole bending, arm straining and tug of war excitement
that pins you to
the rail every time you hook one of these huge “flatties”!
If you hook one of these pole benders, we
refer to the fish as a “shooter”. A shooter is a halibut
that weighs 100lbs or more, to subdue the
halibut we shoot the fish with a .410 shotgun, this insures the safety
of everyone on-board the boat.
With our friendly, professional instructions and techniques, novice
or experienced anglers will be able
to do battle with a large Seward, Alaska Halibut. On your halibut
charter out of Seward, Alaska, we
will travel anywhere from 1 hour to 2.5 hours to some of the most
productive halibut spots available!

Seward
Halibut Fishing Techniques
The way we fish for halibut in Seward is we anchor the boat and fish
right of the bottom. Depending
on the season we fish anywhere from 50 to 325 feet of water on gravel
or rocky bottoms. We use
5 1/2 foot stand-up rods with level-wind reels spooled with 100lb
fishing line. The leader is a 300lb monofilament that is crimped to
a 16/0 Mustad circle- hook baited with an assortment of cut herring,
cod, salmon bellies, octopus or squid. Depending on the current, we
use anywhere from 1 to 3 pound
sinkers to get your halibut leader
to the bottom. Another way to fish for halibut is to use scampi jigs,
the motion of these jigs bouncing up and down of the bottom tend to
attract big halibut! We use either
16oz or 24oz scampi jigs and jig
them 2 to 5 feet off rocky bottoms. |
